VALENTINE POEM
Dr. Friedberg has a new book, actually the length of a poem, and filled with gorgeous images by Wassily Kandinsky. It's a Valentine, and also the perfect Valentine gift.
Have you ever looked for your Valentine, and never quite found them? Never quite connected? But still longed to? Then "Some Say" is a book/poem that you will relate to.
As a gift, it sends a wistful message. But you can just read it when you feel the wistfulness coming on. The images will transport you out of yourself . . . maybe even, towards another person feeling the same way.
SOME SAY
by Ahron Friedberg
For My Valentine
Once I thought I found it
In a peanut butter jar
Wedge of dark chocolate
From a Hershey’s bar.
Once I thought I lost it
In the backseat of a car
Got blue as Picasso’s man
Strumming his guitar.
And once I asked this old man
With a glimmer in his eye
“Let it find you worthy,”
Was his cryptic reply.
While the day is writ
And while the world turns ‘round
Teach me, teach me, teach me sister
Where is our love sound?
Is that its music singing
In the sparrow on a branch,
Or blaring from a boom box
The rhythm of romance?
Or is it in the lullaby
Whispered in my ear
From the so close far away
Ever oh so dear?
While the daily news is read
And while the world’s unwound
Teach me teach me teach me sister
Where is our love found?
Is it in the Arab market
Among the kitsch and chattel
Worth the price of seven sheep
And sixteen fatted cattle?
Some say it’s in a deep hurt
You rub until it passes,
And some prefer it extra sweet
Like pancakes with molasses.
Some catch it in the garden
Sent of baby rose,
And some consign it to the South Pole
Rubbing nose to nose.
Some see it fresh each day
Like the dawn’s early dew,
And some find it in that good fit
Of an old worn shoe.
While the writ is daily news
And while the world’s still round
Teach me, teach me, teach me sister
Where is our love bound.
